Some Recent Hauls

I told myself I wouldn't buy anymore nail polish until the new year but ugh...fat chance of that. I was able to get my hands on Essence Vampire's Love set. A facebook friend from Spain was able to order these and ship them to me here in the States. I freaking love Essence and so bummed these aren't available in the States. So here's the set I bought:
Into the Dark, Gold Old Buffy, the Dawn is Broken, Hunt Me If You Can, True Love

These three in the middle are my fave!
Gold Old Buffy (black w/ gold flakes!), the Dawn is Broken, (grey w/ silver glitter), Hunt Me If You Can (navy w/ silver flakes)
My next haul is from Ebay. Three pretty, chunky glitters from a company called Nabi. I first saw a Nabi on Ali's Nail News and knew I had to find the one she used. Purple Jumbo Glitter is a bunch of different size iridescent glitter with some purple hex glitter. It was pretty easy finding it on Ebay and the seller offered a choice of 3. So I picked up two others. The others are Clear Roundg Glitter (that's not a typo by me, it is spelled like that on the label). It is pretty little heart shaped glitters and small iridescent glitters in a clear base. Last is Lilac Jumbo Glitter. Holographic bar glitter with iridescent glitter. They kind of remind me of Kleancolor Chunky Holos.
Purple Jumbo Glitter, Clear Roundg Glitter, Lilac Jumbo Glitter
My last haul is China Glaze from Sally's. I went in hoping the Finger Paints Special Effect flakies were out but no. I guess I'll have to go back next week. I did find some China Glaze though. I got Blue Sparrow Neon, Ahoy, Ingrid, and White Cap. I'm a little late picking these up. I guess the collection these came from came out a long time ago and I paid full price for these. Probably should have just bought them online. But oh well...I don't regret it. I love these colors! Ingrid especially!
Love the shimmer in this!

Party Hearty - Not!

I hope everyone had a great Christmas! Or whatever holiday you may celebrate! Mine was nice. We stayed home and made tamales on Christmas Eve and had a seafood dinner Christmas night. Yumm. Now I'm back at work. BOO!

I haven't been into nail polish that long. I probably started getting heavily into around Feb or maybe even Jan of this year so it is coming up on one whole year. I mention this because I have seen pics on blogs of China Glaze Party Hearty from last year's holiday collection. I'm so bummed I missed out on buying this polish. I'm sure it is available on Ebay but rather not go that route. Next best thing I thunk up was to franken it. It is not an absolute dupe that I made but enough to kill my lemming for it. My recipe used two Snowman polishes from Rite-Aid. Mostly the red/green glitter and the green/gold glitter and I added more loose gold microglitter.

This is two coats of my franken over two coats of Sinful Colors Snow Me White.
This is the real China Glaze Party Hearty.

I guess the green glitter should have been smaller but I didn't have anything like that in my collection. I came close though, don't you think?

NOTD: Reverse French

Is it weird that I wish I had a longer pinky finger?

This is the first time I did a reverse French but have always wanted to try with a red and gold combo. I'm just loving the mix lately, probably because of the holidays. I couldn't leave well enough alone and added a layer of Essie As Gold As It Gets. I'm loving the gold flakes! I'm putting it on everything! The other colors are Revlon Gold Coin and a generic red by Elf. I think it is called "medium red".

I want to talk about this great website Swagbucks. You use Swagbucks to do searches and every now and then you are rewarded with points. Once the points add up, you can redeem them for prizes. One of the prizes that is commonly redeemed are Amazon giftcards. For 450 points, you can redeem a $5 giftcard. I bought my kids some of their Christmas presents this way. Think of all the nail things you can buy from Amazon! They also have paypal giftcards but they are worth more, but you can get those and that's money in your pocket!

If you sign up today, they give you 30 points to start off with plus if you use this promo code: MegaMonday you get 60 more points. So that's 90 points just to sign up! I'll give you a cheat too! Sign up with this link: Swagbucks and go to SwagbucksTV. Pick a video, any one. It won't matter which. Depending which browser you use, you can download a "reloader" that will reload the page automatically. I have Firefox and use "Reload Every". If you set it to reload every min and just let it run while you are sleeping or out to work, you can get 150 Swagbucks a day! In the begining it may ask for captchas but they go away eventually. It is probably against the rules to do this but so far I've gotten away with it.

As far as the Christmas nail challenge went...I couldn't keep up with the daily challenge. It was too hard for me. I would start a design and get frustrated with how it looked, then start all over again. Seriously too stressful. I just want to be happy and paint my nails freely. lol that sounds silly. Oh well. Sorry I forfeit. :(

24 Days of Christmas: Day 14 & 15

Day 14: Ornaments...

Day 15: Christmas Presents...
I used the same colors for both. The main color is Sinful Colors See You Soon. The glitter is Nicole by OPI Glitter In My Stocking, and the ornaments are a stamp from Bundle Monster, plate BM-225. I used a Sally Hansen Color Quick pen in Silver Chrome. Thanks for looking!

24 Days of Christmas: Day 13 - Christmas Trees

Another day late... sorry. I blame the Christmas season. Today's challenge is Christmas trees. So I tried something new and it turned out so AWESOME! I used the needle drag technique and only had to use two colors. There are some dings because it took FOREVER to dry. That and the clean up sucked. The clean up was bad only because of the colors I used. All in all I love the way this one turned out. I may have to choose this as my favorite and recreate it on the last day of this challenge. So enough yapping, here's a couple pics.

Middle finger turned out the best, exactly how I wanted it to.

Sorry not sure of the names of the colors but their both Color Clubs. The glitter was from the Mistletoe collection and the green was from that collection with all the neons with the blue shimmer. Electro-Candy I think? I was going to embellish them with ornaments and a star but I kind of like the abstract look of them.

Thanks for looking!

24 Days of Christmas: Day 12 - Holly

So technically this is a day late. Sorry, I had  a long day. So here's my design:

I used Nfu-oh 61, the holographic silver. I used it with the Aqua base but still had a little trouble with application. It dragged and I waited a while before painting the next coat.  I will try to take a pick in the sun to show off the holo but that will have to wait til my next post. The berries are Kleancolor Red-Hot which is red hex glitter in a red jelly base. I love this polish, it looks like strawberry glaze. The green is China Glaze Glistening Garland.

Thanks for looking! We're half way through! Ack reminds me I am running out of shopping days...

24 Days of Christmas: Day 11 - Wreathes

I feel a lot better about my work today. Maybe because it was a lot easier to draw a green circle with bows than a star shaped flower.

I found a snowman glitter I forgot I had. It was a chunky red and green glitter and was pretty opaque in 3 coats. I put that on my thumb.

Here's the whole look:

24 Days of Christmas: Day 10 - Poinsettias

Sorry this post is so late. I almost gave up with today's challenge. I've reached Day 10. In case you couldn't tell from the pic, these are poinsettias. lol. This was the best of them. I messed up so many times and was tired of having my hands smell like acetone that I just decided this was the last try.  I'll try better tomorrow.

24 Days of Christmas: Day 9 - Red/Green

This manicure has been the most Christmas-y I think so far out of this whole challenge. I guess it is just the colors I used. Mainly glitters. The red I used was Santa's Cinnamon, the green was China Glaze Glittering Garland and then Sinful Colors Call You Later layered over that. Then I used Revlon Gold Coin to outline the green. But I wanted MORE glitter! So I went over Gold Coin with Nicole by O.P.I. Glitter In My Stocking. Finally topped it all off with Seche Vite.

Kind of a far away shot to put it into perspective.
Thanks for looking!

24 Days of Christmas: Day 8 - Candy Canes

Today's challenge is candy canes. Luckily for me it wasn't that hard to draw candy canes. Base coast of gelous, my franken for a light blue w/ glitter, candy canes are Snow Me White and Santa's Cinnamon. Today's post is short and sweet! Thank you come again!

Please be sure to check out Paint That Nail. She started it all!

24 Days of Christmas: Day 7 - Gingerbread Man

First full week of this challenge! I'm almost too ashamed to show you this. But honestly... whatev' at this point. I'm an amateur at nail art and I know it. Obviously now you know it too! LOL. I think I'm getting better at it though. Maybe?

So the colors I used was a coat of Snow Me White and I layered a thin coat of China Glaze Twinkle Lights. Then I drew the gingerbread men with Sinful Colors Nirvana. I can't believe this is the only brown I own! Please suggest some good browns for me because I love brown!

On a side note, if you have a CVS near you, they are having a great clearance sale right now! Lots of stuff I found today that is 75% off! I got some Revlon eye shadows for $1.37, a bunch of Sally Hansen stuff for about $2.80 each, some Wet N Wild stuff were 50% off, some L'Oreal lipsticks were 50% or 75% off (I can't remember which)...just all around awesome deals!

24 Days of Christmas: Day 6 - Penguins

I'm on day 6 of the Christmas challenge. Today's theme is penguins. That seemed kind of hard. I'm not good at drawing and have never even drawn a penguin. I searched Youtube and picked what seemed like the easiest tutorial I could find. Sorry no offense Imisskatv from Youtube. I really loved the tutorial! Here's my nails! My middle finger got smudged with top coat. And if you say these look like owls, I won't disagree with you. LOL!

and here's the tutorial:

I used: the pink base was a Forever 21 "Dusty Lavender",  Wet n Wild Black Creme, Sinful Colors Snow Me White, NYC Pumpkin, and Sinful Colors Scandal.

Thanks for sticking around!

24 Days of Christmas: Day 5 - Snowman Face

Still doing the challenge! I'm on day five and I surprised myself and decided to do a french tipped mani. I never thought my nails were long enough to pull it off but I like it. I used a base coat of OPI Nail Envy, 3 layers of Essence Irreplaceable, Color Club Santa's Cinnamon for the tips, and the snowman face is Sinful Colors Snow Me White, Wet N Wild Ink Well, NYC Pumpkin and Color Club Santa's Cinnamon.

On an unrelated note, does anyone do Swagbucks? I just started getting into finding points, even though I've been signed up for a long time. The main way to earn points is to use it as a search engine. I still prefer to use Google for searches but occasionally will use their search engine. There are other ways on their site also. You can get picked for surveys, fill out daily polls, buy stuff, download coupons, trade in electronics...the list goes on. I recently got enough points to redeem them for Amazon giftcards. They have paypal cards too but they are worth more points.

24 Days of Christmas Challenge: Days 3 & 4 - Icicles and Snoman

Here is day 3 and 4 of the 24 Days of Christmas challenge combined. I wasn't able to post yesterday. Base coat of Nail Envy, 2 coats of a brick red from E.L.F. (no name on the bottle), Snow Me White by Sinful Colors for the icicles and snowman and black creme from Wet N Wild for his eyes, buttons and hat.

My snowman pinky. Ain't he cute?

24 Days of Christmas: Day 2 - Snowflake

Seriously it is only the second day of this challenge and it was hard enough to figure out how to do a snowflake. I suck at nail art. First I tried to use a white striper and free hand it. That turned out horrible. I don't see how you girls get those fine lines. Mine were thick and gloppy. I even cleaned off the brush and used regular white polish. Next I tried to use a dotter and just dot "snowflakes" on my nails. I thought that looked bad though. I finally got out the Konad but I suck at stamping too. I persevered though. My problem with stamping is that I can never get the whole design on the stamper. I did some research online and saw a tip to gently file the stamper a bit. That actually worked! So here's my finished mani that I just finished an hour ago. Base coat of Gelous, two coats of China Glaze For Audrey,  snowflake stamp from Bundle Monster in Konad white, and a holographic topcoat by Love & Beauty. Lastly a top coat of Seche Vite.

Also I won my first giveaway from Shally at Polished & Not Quite Put Together! I got my prize today! Thank you Shally! I got "The Red Trio" by E.L.F.

And lastly I bought myself a present from Ulta during Cyber Monday. I finally got the Urban Decay Naked eye shadow palette. But then a few days later, on Urban Decay's Facebook wall, they announced Naked II. LoL, figures. I saw the new palette though and it is very similar. So I think I'll pass. I'm very happy to get this one though. Yay!

Til tomorrow...

24 Days of Christmas: Day 1 - Snowfall

First day of the 24 Days of Christmas Challenge! The inspiration is Snowfall. I tried to make it a light, icy blue with some shimmer. It reminded me of a fresh mound of snow. I used a base of Snow Me White by Sinful Colors. I topped that with a layer of LA Colors Glitter. My bottle has no name. I have pictures at the bottom of this post. Let me know if it has a name! And then on top of everything I put on a few coats of Colada Fizz by Revlon. That's what gave it that blue hue I wanted. It is also a scented polish and I guess by the name is supposed to smell like pina coladas. It doesn't. It kind of smells sweet and vanilla-y to me, like a cupcake. I wish it did smell more like coconuts though. I love that smell. Here are my pics:

Here are close ups of Colada Fizz and the LA Colors:
It is very sheer and has some tiny bits of flakies!
Holographic hex glitter!

24 Days of Christmas starting tomorrow!

Paint That Nail has come up with a 24 Days of Christmas design challenge. I'm not very good at nail art but have decided that I will try it out. Check out the list!

I'll be starting tomorrow! I hope I can do this. I'm doing this at the last minute so I'm hoping I won't get too busy with the Christmas season.

On another note, I received another Secret Santa Package from a facebook group. I got Nubar 2010, Kendall on the Katwalk, some loose glitter, nail striping tape, and cute penguin candies. Thanks again Cherisse!

Color-morphing Top Coat

This experiment was exciting! When I saw color-morphing powder for sale on More Nail Polish, I had to get some. Sure there might be some for sale cheaper and in the States where I am, but I am an impulse shopper. I didn't even bother researching. So I ordered all three powders plus some spectra-flair. I just added some red/green powder to some suspension base and it is awesome! I put one layer over a purple cream from Ulta. I'm not sure the name of it, but it is a mini that came in a Halloween set. If I remember the package, I think it is called Hocus Pocus maybe? Guess what that combination ended up looking like?

Look at that color shift? Shimmery copper-red to shimmery green all on a purple background. OMG it is reminiscent of Clarins 230! I can't stop staring at my nails! Another major lemming, killed! I just wish that purple came in a full size bottle. It looks great even by itself.

Thanks for looking.

How I Spent My Sunday...

Any Walking Dead fans? Can I just say Whoa? No spoilers here. Sorry. Anyway...

Played around with my flakies and mixed them all in a mini bottle. Check this out:

Probably not enough of a dupe of Unicorn Puke, but it kills my lemming.

So I ended up using a little bit of each: Nfu-oh 41, 51, 52, Orly Foul Play, Essence Waking up in Vegas, and Nails, Inc. the donmar.  Too sheer in 1 coat, 3 coats still very sheer. Had to layer it over a dark color. This picture was with a flash indoors.

Hope to show off my color-morphing pigment experiments next! Stay tuned...

Glitter Gradient

I tried my first glitter gradient tonight. I used holiday colors. I can't get a decent picture at all and the effect IRL is way better than what I could try to shoot on camera. For my base, I used Stuck in the Chimney by Nicole by OPI. It was a mini that came in a set I got from TJ Maxx. Then I sponged the gold, Glitter In My Stocking also by NOPI about 2/3 of my nail. On top of that I sponged Spark My Mistletoe which is a red glitter on the top 1/3 of my nail. Top coat of Gelous and then a coat of Seche Vite. I like it a lot. It is a very festive manicure.

Well I'm going to keep trying. I still haven't gotten sponge manicures down yet and I'm really horrible at stamping still too. But I plan to keep practicing and one day will get the hang of them ;)

My Franken Supplies Came!

Oh ya! I got my order in from TKB Supplies! I kept it kind of small and just ordered suspension base, bottles and BB balls. I can't wait to start making my own polish! I placed an order on November 20th, I got a notice that it shipped on November 23rd, and today it's on my door step! Wow that's fast. But I must add, I am not that far from where they shipped it from. :) There are a lot of senseless pics here. And I instagramed them to death. lol.
Here's the box it came in. I tore into it but then as an afterthought, I took a picture. Oh well

So this was is what's inside. It is all in plastic bags, sealed tight. The black things on the left are the caps to the mini bottles. There is glamour (suspension) base in the middle and the BB balls on the top. The mini bottles were way down at the bottom.

Here are some close-ups:
Obviously you see what this is :)
Caps and brushes to my minis!
My mini bottles. I wish I bought more :(

Can't wait to start making my new creations!
