24 Days of Christmas starting tomorrow!

Paint That Nail has come up with a 24 Days of Christmas design challenge. I'm not very good at nail art but have decided that I will try it out. Check out the list!

I'll be starting tomorrow! I hope I can do this. I'm doing this at the last minute so I'm hoping I won't get too busy with the Christmas season.

On another note, I received another Secret Santa Package from a facebook group. I got Nubar 2010, Kendall on the Katwalk, some loose glitter, nail striping tape, and cute penguin candies. Thanks again Cherisse!

Color-morphing Top Coat

This experiment was exciting! When I saw color-morphing powder for sale on More Nail Polish, I had to get some. Sure there might be some for sale cheaper and in the States where I am, but I am an impulse shopper. I didn't even bother researching. So I ordered all three powders plus some spectra-flair. I just added some red/green powder to some suspension base and it is awesome! I put one layer over a purple cream from Ulta. I'm not sure the name of it, but it is a mini that came in a Halloween set. If I remember the package, I think it is called Hocus Pocus maybe? Guess what that combination ended up looking like?

Look at that color shift? Shimmery copper-red to shimmery green all on a purple background. OMG it is reminiscent of Clarins 230! I can't stop staring at my nails! Another major lemming, killed! I just wish that purple came in a full size bottle. It looks great even by itself.

Thanks for looking.

How I Spent My Sunday...

Any Walking Dead fans? Can I just say Whoa? No spoilers here. Sorry. Anyway...

Played around with my flakies and mixed them all in a mini bottle. Check this out:

Probably not enough of a dupe of Unicorn Puke, but it kills my lemming.

So I ended up using a little bit of each: Nfu-oh 41, 51, 52, Orly Foul Play, Essence Waking up in Vegas, and Nails, Inc. the donmar.  Too sheer in 1 coat, 3 coats still very sheer. Had to layer it over a dark color. This picture was with a flash indoors.

Hope to show off my color-morphing pigment experiments next! Stay tuned...

Glitter Gradient

I tried my first glitter gradient tonight. I used holiday colors. I can't get a decent picture at all and the effect IRL is way better than what I could try to shoot on camera. For my base, I used Stuck in the Chimney by Nicole by OPI. It was a mini that came in a set I got from TJ Maxx. Then I sponged the gold, Glitter In My Stocking also by NOPI about 2/3 of my nail. On top of that I sponged Spark My Mistletoe which is a red glitter on the top 1/3 of my nail. Top coat of Gelous and then a coat of Seche Vite. I like it a lot. It is a very festive manicure.

Well I'm going to keep trying. I still haven't gotten sponge manicures down yet and I'm really horrible at stamping still too. But I plan to keep practicing and one day will get the hang of them ;)

My Franken Supplies Came!

Oh ya! I got my order in from TKB Supplies! I kept it kind of small and just ordered suspension base, bottles and BB balls. I can't wait to start making my own polish! I placed an order on November 20th, I got a notice that it shipped on November 23rd, and today it's on my door step! Wow that's fast. But I must add, I am not that far from where they shipped it from. :) There are a lot of senseless pics here. And I instagramed them to death. lol.
Here's the box it came in. I tore into it but then as an afterthought, I took a picture. Oh well

So this was is what's inside. It is all in plastic bags, sealed tight. The black things on the left are the caps to the mini bottles. There is glamour (suspension) base in the middle and the BB balls on the top. The mini bottles were way down at the bottom.

Here are some close-ups:
Obviously you see what this is :)
Caps and brushes to my minis!
My mini bottles. I wish I bought more :(

Can't wait to start making my new creations!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Here's my NOTD: Sally Hansen Gem Crush Big Money. So shiny!

It's about 9:30pm here. I'm actually working the late shift here at work. It is slow so I'm blogging :) lol.  It sucks but I'm getting paid extra. I don't mind. I got to sleep in this morning but I had to start cooking at 10:30 am so I could have everything ready before I had to work at 5:00. We didn't have anyone over and we didn't go anywhere. It was just me and my family. We don't have turkey. I make lamb every year instead. I make green bean casserole and pumpkin pie too. My husband is diabetic so I make him sugar free jello. That was his request, not mine. LOL. So it was a nice evening with my family. I'm very thankful for that. I still don't know if I plan on going Black Friday shopping yet after work. My pay day was today and usually a holiday pushes things back a day but the money actually came in yesterday! I'm thankful for that! Haha. But I'm stuck here til 12:30am so it is not like I can go wait in line for any good deals anyway. I also hate Wal-Mart on Black Friday. It is crazy. So anyway with that being said, I hope everyone has a happy Thanksgiving if you celebrate it or not!

More Nail Mail and a Melmer!

I just want to say that I can't believe I'm almost at 50 followers. That's so cool and thanks for sticking by. I'm already thinking about a giveway and looking for the perfect prize. I follow a lot of blogs but if you'd like me to follow you, please comment below. Chances are, I probably already do :) !

This weekend was nice. I am in three different Secret Santa "groups" on Facebook and I got my first one! On Saturday I received a Secret Santa package. I got a lot of awesome stuff. I am a lucky gal. She got me the Orly Birds of a Feather gift set from Sally's, China Glaze Papaya Punch, some red and glitter stripers, CG Gr8 from the OMG collection, and an EOS hand lotion. I couldn't have been happier. A holo! Woo hoo! I sent all my Secret Santa Packages out yesterday. What a relief!

Also got a package from Bulgaria. I bought Essence Blue Addicted from her. It looks like it could be a Deborah Lippman dupe for Across the Universe. It is gorgeous.

And last but not least, I bought a "melmer" from Michaels. I got a great deal and I might go back and buy another because not all my stash can fit into one. It did fit most of them. This melmer is unbelievably tiny but I could fit more polish in it, more so than my other storage system. It was so easy to put together and I did it all by myself. I want to paint it because it is just Blah white.

From L to R, Top to Bottom: Bulgarian Nail Mail, Melmer in the box, Blue Addicted, my Secret Santa gifts, my finished melmer.

On a side note, I placed an order on TKB Trading for suspension base and mini bottles for frankening. It won't be shipping out until the 25th which is this Friday. I can't wait to start making my own polish!

DIY Glitter Polish

Someone on facebook found this cool video of making a "suspension base" for glitter polish with just some clear polish and xanthan gum.  The wikipedia page for xanthan gum does say it is used as a stabilizer in cosmetic products so who knows, maybe this is how real suspension base is made. I have yet to try it but there are other youtube videos where people have used it to thicken their nail polish for stamping and that seems to work. I don't think I'll be trying this yet. I will check my local whole foods place (not actually Whole Foods, just a hippie food co-op) for xanthan gum and see if they have it. If it is inexpensive, I might buy some. At least if it doesn't work for making suspension base, I could totally use some for making Fauxnad polish for stamping.

If you have used this method, let me know! I'd love to hear how it turns out.

Nail Mail!

I received nail mail today! Two packages. I'm excited because these are my lemmings! These are from two girls I met on Facebook. I was able to to buy China Glaze 2Nite and LOL! My two holographic lemmings. I also bought Essence Waking up in Vegas. It is a flakie and not available in the States. I bought this from a girl in Spain! These are for me so I am totally going to show them off! Check out the pics:

(edit: I don't know how but somehow I manage to post these before I'm ready so if anyone sees a weird post that might not be complete, that's why.)

Hauls and stuff

I have been slow with the posts lately. I think I need to take a break from the polish because I have been going a little cray-cray with all the hauls. I bought all the new Sally Hansen Gem Crush polishes. I don't know why I had to buy all of them, but I did. Luckily they were on sale this week at CVS and I got a $10 gift card back. I picked up the Eye Candy Collection by China Glaze. In addition to that, I also got the Color Club Mistletoe collection as well and some gift sets from Sally's!!! Wait I'm not done!! I also ordered some things off Ebay and bought another thing from another Facebooker overseas. Bleh. See crayyyzee.  I've read that some girls have also found some Sally Hansen Nail Prism sets at Ross and I have been stalking 2 different Ross' in my area and have not found those yet.  Boo! God help me if I find them....or more than one of them! I feel bad because tomorrow is my husbands birthday and I still have not bought him a present. Not to worry, I know what to get him and it should be easily available at Best Buy.

I am participating in Secret Santa in three different facebook groups. Most of that stuff above isn't even for that! LOL kinda. I have been all over town these past few days, shopping for the perfect gifts.  I was surprised with what I found today and I think I found some great things. I hope they like what I picked for them. I wish I could show you the stuff I got but don't want to ruin the surprise just in case my Secret Santa receiver reads my blog. Ooh that reminds me, I should take pictures of the stuff to share for later, before I send it off. Stay tuned for one big awesome haul post.

In other news, I went to Michaels today also. I had some ideas about resin crafting some jewelry and went to do some price research. Wow resin is kind of pricey (says the girl who probably just spent $100 or more on nail polish). I didn't get any now but I did buy $1 worth of white felt to use instead of cotton balls to remove nail polish with. Ok wait for it....On my receipt I got a 40% off coupon for any regular priced item for my next visit (if my next visit is between 11/20-11/23 which is lame!) but I think I'm going to use it to buy the resin. 40% off is a big help! Can't wait to start getting crafty and show off some stuff!

How I Spent My Sunday

Today started out a little lazy. Slept in til 10am. My mom's birthday is coming up on November 16th. She passed away almost 5 years ago in February. So we went to visit her grave, put some new flowers on it for her and my dad. While I was there, I found out my grandpa and my aunt died last year. Their gravestones are nearby. No one told me. Thanks family. I was never really close to that side of the family. But still, I went out of my way to tell them when my mom died. I'm not mad though. They probably don't even know how to reach me. Even though I am in the phone book and they know where I live. But whatever. So that ruined my day. Wow, that kind of sounded whiney of me. Sorry about that. Changing the subject...

After that, we headed to Montana De Oro State Park. It was nice and warm today but a little cloudy. I wish I had my camera, but there are a lot of great pictures of that place on the web. I'm lucky to live about 20 minutes away. While there, I found a lot of little washed up coral on the beach. I usually look for shells and sea glass but found coral today. At least I hope it is coral. lol
washed up coral
Then we came home and still had nothing to do, so I decided to work on my stash list. I'm not even halfway through my stash and I'm up to 173. OMG. I'm scurred... I wonder how much I will have when I'm done. I still have polish coming in the mail that I have ordered online. Eek! How much is in your stash?

Fight Night Franken!

So tonight was the Manny Pacquiao vs. Juan Manuel Marquez fight. Marquez is from Mexico City where my husband is from. So we had to watch and root for the hometown hero. He was glued to the TV for 3 hours watching all the fights. I was inspired and decided I had to make a new polish. In honor of the fight, I present to you my new creation, "Bruised".

Bruised is a muave-purple with red flecks, like a bloody bruise. Heh. It was hard to catch the red flecks but you can see a little in the bottle shot. It was a modge podge mixture of several red and blue polishes.  It looked kind of gross in the bottle but turned out nice when I finally put it on. The bottom picture was with flash and made the purple brighter than it actually is IRL. I had to shake this forever. I have no BB's yet so will have to pick some up next trip to Wal-Mart. The formula turned out great but it was a little sheer. I had to put on 4 coats before I got total opaqueness. It dried quick and after a top coat of Seche, it didn't budge. I'm pretty happy with this creation. I love purples!

Off Topic: PineCone Research

I fill out surveys occasionally for PineCone Research. They sent me an email that they are looking for more members that are part of a  Hispanic household. If you are interested in becoming a member of their panel, please read this email. Thanks!

PineCone Research is still looking for new members, specifically for households who identify as being of Hispanic/Latino descent.  We are offering select members the opportunity to recommend membership to a friend or relative who is NOT a member of their household.
Do you know of households that would like to join the PineCone Research Panel? If so, please FORWARD A COPY of this email to each household you would like to refer so that they may click on the registration link shown below.  That household should complete the registration form themselves and submit it. REMEMBER THAT ONLY ONE PERSON PER HOUSEHOLD MAY REGISTER. Multiple registrations of the same Household will void all registrations.
Here is the link to the registration:

Oh and I forgot to mention, every survey you fill out gets you paid $3. Not much but hey money is money. After awhile it adds up. :)

NOTD: Glitter Layering

I've never been a fan of glitter polishes. Nope, hated the look, hated the clean up, hated the removal. I just thought glitter was tacky, like wearing a bedazzled jean jacket. lol.  With all these glitter collections that have been released (OPI Muppets, Color Club Mistletoe, China Glaze Eye Candy, Wet n Wild Ice Baby, now Sally Hansen has a glitter collection too!), I've actually come around to liking them. I don't know what changed my mind but it just doesn't bother me anymore. I love the way glitter looks now. I don't mind the removal. I just discovered "the foil method" and it does make the removal process a lot easier. I can't wait until the China Glaze Eye Candy collection comes out. I've seen some blog posts where they have hit some Sally's already and some supply stores but none in my area have them out yet.

Anyway to get to the point of this post, since I don't have the Eye Candy collection yet. I decided to try recreating the look of Lorelei's Tiara with what I have. Lorelei's Tiara is mainly tiny silver microglitter with large blue hex glitter. I used an LA Colors silver (forgot the name), Love & Beauty Silver Glitter, Sally Hansen Twinkle Twinkle, and NYC Starry Silver. Yup, there are probably 8 layers of polish and glitter on my nails.

I found a great light source, now I just need a better camera. But this is the best picture I could take. It looks amazing IRL.

I did this last night, an hour before I went to sleep. Everything was dried and fine, topped with a layer of Seche Vite. Then I woke up to this:
This was the only finger this happened to. All the rest of my nails were fine. Bummer.

So now that glitter and I are on good terms, I just need to find a bedazzled jean jacket to match. :)

The donmar collection by nails, inc.

I picked this up during Sephora's friends and family sale. It is the donmar collection by nails inc. Every time I see "donmar" I think Don Omar.  Anway, it comes with a dark plum color called "chelsea" with a flakie top coat called "the donmar". The flakies are gold and green. The plum color was opaque in one coat. It went on smooth and dried fast. This manicure lasted three days without a chip or barely any tip wear! I am very pleased with this purchase!
Sorry these are camera phone pics!

Legalize it

I made a new pendant. I didn't make this one very well though. This comes in 2 pieces, the silver back piece and then the clear part. The clear part had a sticky back so all you had to do was put a picture or in this case the leaf on the silver part then put the clear part on top of it. The damn thing won't stick. Maybe it was because I painted the back or maybe it was just a piece of crap adhesive. Or maybe I'm just doing it wrong. It didn't really come with instructions. But I just figured it wouldn't be that hard. I plan to make more. I think I'll have to do it differently next time.

I made a frankendupe!

Ok, I'm going to start out by saying this isn't my idea. I mean, originally I didn't come up with this. I saw a post on Chalkboard Nails where she showed two examples of a Butter London The Black Night franken. I had never seen or heard of this color yet but saw her pictures and were amazed. Here is a picture of the real thing:

Ok so now you know what the real thing looks like. I don't have actual swatches to base mine off of. Here is my version:

My recipe was Wet N Wild Clear (I think there was only a 1/4 of it in the bottle, so I just mixed everything in this bottle), NYC Blackula, Fantasy Makers Confetti Glitz, Wet N Wild Sparked, Love & Beauty "Multi" Glitter, and a blue & purple snowman glitter. I think I added too much of the purple and blue glitter. I like the way it turned out though. It was hard to photograph. The glitter is microscopic and it looks better in the bottle. I am happy with it though. It was gritty when it all dried though. So I topped it with Gelous and then a layer of Out the Door. That smoothed everything out just fine.

I don't always wear my ring like that. I just tried to get it in the shot.

Thanks for looking!
