NOTD: Cracked Golden Egg Nails

I recently picked up Wet N Wild Sunny Side Up at the Rite-Aid 40% off sale. It is a nice orange color and for .59 cents, that is pretty awesome! The name is cute too. It really does look like the color of egg yolk
I love orange and corals with gold and usually top it with some sort of glitter topper and decided on using NYX Girls Gilded Glitter. I've had that in my stash for sometime now and I've barely used it. I think the combo was nice.

But the name Sunny Side Up gave me an idea so I put on OPI White Shatter. My white shatter was completely dried up! Seriously dried up. It wasn't even touching the sides of the bottle. It was just a dried up clump and I could hardly get the brush out. I thought it was a goner, but I added thinner and shook like crazy. It was good as new.
I know the crackle fad is pretty much over but I really felt like wearing it today. I was hoping the gilded glitter would show through more but it didn't so I topped the shatter with another coat of glitter. The base of the glitter is clear but tinted a little. That's why the white looks a little yellow.

What are your thoughts? Are you over crackles yet?

My First A-England: Ascalon

When a-england recently had a 30% off sale for the creator's cat's birthday (yes that's really what I wrote), I decided to buy my first a-england polishes. I bought Ascalon and Bridal Veil. I'm going to show you Ascalon today. Ascalon is a pretty holo purple polish. It is almost kind of a duochrome as it looks gray at some angles and purple in others. Maybe it is all that holo goodness that makes it look different all the time.

This is just one coat! No streakiness, no bald patches...just a smooth, one-coat application!  I freaking love this polish! Check them out! The sale is over but the owner/creator, Adina, offers free shipping WORLDWIDE all the time with no minimum (they're from the UK)! Who does that???

Combatting Weak and Peeling Nails

I've had a problem with my nails breaking and peeling for a long time. I've tried many products that claim to help and so far haven't really found anything that has. That was, until now. More on that in a minute.

The very first thing I ever tried was Sally Hansen Miracle Cure. This was years ago. I didn't like it. It promised results in 3 days but I didn't notice a change until I used it for a few weeks. It helped with the peelies but my nails weren't strong. My nails still broke and chipped for the dumbest things, like running my fingers through my hair.  It also dried so slow. It kept getting smudged and considering I used that as a base coat, that would just be Eww.

In search of other alternatives, I have tried expensive treatments and cheap treatments. Nail Envy by OPI was probably the most expensive. It was $17 if I remember correctly. That did nothing for me. I know it has worked miracles for some people, but not me :(. Yes I followed the instructions completely. In hindsight I wish I would have bought the formula for weak and brittle nails, but for $17 a bottle, I don't want to buy something else and risk the chance of it not working. The cheapest one I've used so far was Nail Aid Extreme Steel Hardener. I found it at Ross for $2.99. That actually worked for making my nails grow faster but still did nothing for strength and peeling.

So now I have been using Nail Magic Nail Hardener after reading reviews on Makeup Alley. I bought it at Sally's for about $8. I read reviews that it was kind of irritating and has caused pain in some users. I have been using it for two weeks now and have not had a problem with it. I can totally tell that my nails have gotten stronger. The peelies have stopped. My nails have grown a lot faster too. They look very healthy and I am so happy about this. Also I'm not sure if this also helped or not but I stopped using pure acetone. I buy the cheap $1 "strengthening" nail polish remover and use that all the time now. Even for glitter removal. It takes a little longer to remove glitter but it works so I don't plan on using anything else. Basically my routine now is a base coat of Nail Magic, 2-3 layers of polish (depending on the polish) and top coat (either Seche or Poshe).

Look how purty they are!
Hopefully after I post this, my nails don't break. LOL because you know that's probably what will happen.

So this isn't a commerical for Nail Magic. I am just trying to spread the love and am happy in finding something that works for my nails. Hopefully this works for others also that have the same problem that I do. If not, leave a comment and tell us what works for your nails!

Thanks for reading.

NOTD: Holo Skittles

Today was probably not the right day to wear holographic nail polish. The sun was out when I started the mani but is now hidden behind the clouds. The weather report calls for rain this week. Boo but I guess we need it. So here is the mani today.

Thumb: Layla Holographic Effect 08 Flash Black
Index: China Glaze LOL
Middle: Nfu-Oh 63
Ring: China Glaze 2Nite
Pinky: Nfu-Oh 61

I think part of the reason why the holo isn't showing up well is because I used a top coat (Poshe). If the sun peeks out, I'll see if that makes a difference and take another pic.

Oh and I just downloaded Instagram on Android. My user name is "smarifa". Follow me and I'll follow back!

Indie Polish Review

I recently purchased this nail polish off of an etsy shop called Wonder Beauty Products. The owner Jen has a lot of unique colors and her packaging is pretty unique as well. Her nail polishes are stored in a cosmetic jar (no brush) and come with her own "Crystal Liquid Fusion". It is a fast dry top coat and you can use the brush from that to apply the nail polish.

Every polish you order comes with its own top coat and a stirring stick. The name of the polish I ordered was "Aphrodisiac". It is kind of a dusty sea foam green, it reminds me of OPI Mermaids Tears. It has tiny gold glitter, some teal glitter, and silver hex glitters.

So basically you use the stick to stir up the formula and then use the brush from the liquid fusion to apply it to your nail. I found that stirring would help disperse the glitter but the bigger pieces would immediately fall to the bottom after stirring.

See, hardly any pretty silver hex glitters on my nails :(. They all fell to the bottom before I could pick them up with the brush. The formula was fine though, other than that. It went on smooth. It was sheer but it was easy to build it up to opaqueness. I'm pretty sure this is 3 coats plus top coat. It dried shiny. The top coat made it even shinier.

If you'd like to order your own, her Etsy shop can be found here. She also has a Facebook page here. This product was purchased by me with my own money and all opinions are mine!

Pop My Bubbles

This is Sinful Colors Morning Star. It is one of their new colors from the "Girls in Pearls Sheer Shimmer Collection." It is a pretty periwinkle blue. I stamped a bubble design on it from Cheeky plate ch9. The color I used on the stamp is Color Club Cold Metal from the Foiled Collection. Some of the image didn't stamp completely, hence the "pop my bubbles" title of this blog post. It is probably due to my technique because the whole image was on the stamp just fine. Nothing wrong with the plate. It just means I need to practice more. Extreme close up coming.

Here is the image it is supposed to be if you can't tell.

If anyone out there has any tips on how to get the image to stamp completely without little bits and pieces left behind, please let me know! Thanks for looking.

Nail Mail and Stamping Practice

Just recently Cult Nails posted a little note on Facebook that Toxic Seaweed was down to the last 250 and to order soon before they sell out. This is one I really wanted to so I quickly placed an order for that and Captivated. I just got them today! Wow that was fast. I placed an order on Saturday night and got it today, Wednesday.

Wow I was not expecting Toxic Seaweed to be this gorgeous. Pictures do not do it justice. I will say the same for Captivated.

Cult Nails Captivated and Toxic Seaweed

Also still practicing the stamping skills so I just wanted to share a few pics. It's boring, nothing amazing so just warning you ahead of time. I still have on OPI Shim-merry Chic (or I'd Like to Thank... as the label says) and stamped over it with Sally Hansen Color Quick Pen Gold Chrome. The plate is Bundle Monster BM-201.

Incidentally though, I'm left handed and when I used my left hand to stamp my right hand, it was a complete FAIL. The image was crooked on some. I couldn't stamp the whole image completely on the others. It just looks awful. When I used my right hand to stamp my left hand, it looked great. Go figure. These are pics of the good hand.

Random Find

I stopped by my local Target today and noticed they re-did the nail polish section. They moved around some stuff and also added O.P.I. I know some Targets usually carry O.P.I. but this is something new for mine. The selection was small and I don't even think they had any current collections or even anything from the core collection. I bought a coppery shimmery polish with flakies in it. It is labeled as "I'd Like to Thank..." but when I came home to google it, I realized that wasn't it. Another quick google search later and I'm pretty sure I'm now the proud owner of Shim-Merry Chic. This is from a Christmas collection a few years ago and too bad Target didn't have any others from this collection. I would have loved to pick up Merry Midnight and Smitten with Mittens. It is so weird that it is mislabeled though.

Have you found anything random lately?

Green & Gold Holo Croc

Happy April Fool's Day! I don't have any tricks up my sleeves today. I can't believe it is already April! March went by fast. It will be summer before I know it. So I really wanted to do a design with cherry blossoms because April always makes me thinks of cherry blossoms. I grew up in Northern Virgina so going to see the Cherry Blossoms in D.C. was always special. But I'm getting off track considering I didn't end up doing any cherry blossoms. The designs never came out to what I was thinking about in my head. I tried a few different designs and I wasn't happy with any :(

I saw my holo green franken sitting out and put that on. Why not, it is a nice sunny day today after a few days of clouds and rain. Then also I saw the crocodile design on the image plate I already had out and decided to stamp my nails with that. The image is from Bundle Monster BM-224 and I stamped it using China Glaze GR8. The holo green is a mixture of Barry M Racing Green, Wet N Wild Black Creme and spectraflair. This isn't very "spring-y" but I really love this green and green is a spring color, right?
